Head of Digital Marketing & eCommerce for Scandlines
On behalf of Scandlines, we are currently seeking a commercial, consumer-oriented and strategic Head of Digital Marketing & eCommerce to improve Scandlines digital customer experience. In this role, you will have the opportunity to join Scandlines on the quest to develop and shape innovative implementations of consumer relationships through digital platforms.
Scandlines is a modern and innovative ferry operator with a green vision for the future, taking pride in being a resilient culture based on a strong German-Danish cooperation and maritime history dating back to 1872. Today, Scandlines is owned by three infrastructure funds and owns the world’s largest fleet of hybrid ferries operating between Germany and Denmark from the German harbors Puttgarden and Rostock, and the Danish harbors Rødby and Gedser.
Scandlines have set a clear vision to reach a green ferry operation, continuously aiming at finding the best and most sustainable technical solutions. Thus, Scandlines offers a fleet of hybrid ferries, where petrol or diesel is combined with electricity, alonsides having noise-reducing thrusters that produces less underwater noise and further reduce CO2 emissions, and a rotor sail that is powered by the wind. Furthermore, Scandlines focuses on reducing food waste, less use of chemicals, a safe workplace and more green spaces on land to integrate sustainability throughout all activities.
With more than 38,000 departures on seven ferriues, Scandlines transported over 3,6 million passengers, 950,000 cars and 720,000 freights on the routes Puttgarden-Rødby and Rostock-Gedser in 2021. Scandines core business is to provide an efficient and reliable transport service for both passengers and freight customers, with an overall focus on delivering great customer experience throughout all activities – from omboarding the ferry to excellent customer service in their BorderShops.

As Head of Digital Marketing & eCommerce you will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams in the development, planning and integration of website and app to enhance the customer journey experience. The ambition is that 80% of sales will be made online by 2025 and Scandlines is aware that this requires dedication and investment.
With digital flair and excellent leadership skills you will have the responsibility of directing the strategic and tactical aspects of the Scandlines eCommerce growth journey. The focus of the role is to develop and optimize a branded eCommerce experience by ensuring seamless integration and dataflows across channels. You will secure a balanced distribution channel strategy and have responsibility for digital products and GDPR. Furthermore, you will drive strategic change through marketing technology implementations in order to ensure a unique customer experience, develop the digital footprint and efficient usage of data across platforms.
The Head of Digital Marketing & eCommerce position covers the digital area in relation to operations and development of digital channels, supporting and collaboration with the german Scandlines marketing team, while also holding responsibility for marketing & paid media (including contact with media agencies and creative agencies etc.) on all southbound marketing activities.
Your areas of responsibility will include:
- Leading digital transformation through cross-functional teams to effectively develop optimized eCommerce solutions
- Building the digital presence, focusing on improving and optimizing the digital customer journey while being on the forefront of innovation
- Ensure that Scandlines delivers the best personalized digital services and products in order to provide all customers with the best customer experience
- Drive customer-centric growth through increased customer engagement and conversation rates
- Ensure strong collaboration and communication across the company and serve as a primary point of contact for the website and app development
- Development, execution and evaluation of digital campaigns
- Preparation of campaign plans and budget management
- Continuously analyze and research the performance of all services to try and identify potential opportunities that would improve the customer experience
- Use and activate data to build business cases to support and justify future development
Succeeding in the role as Head of Digital Marketing & eCommerce, comes with extensive experience of relevant eCommerce and lead generation. Throughout your career, you have developed a well-equipped toolbox of eCommerce, technical and online marketing disciplines. You can develop, optimize and lead strategic change through marketing technology implementations and processes across teams and channels to increase revenue growth. Moreover, you possess strong analytical, and data driven decision-making skills and comes with a solid understanding of market research and data analysis methods.
On a personal note, you have an innovative and conceptual mindset, which makes you constantly look forward and seeing pride in accountability. You are both comfortable and used to making decisions that affects others, internally and externally, and have experience leading digital product teams as well as a strategic mindset to lead technical digital transformation. Moreover, you are a creative person who enjoys thinking outside the box when developing ideas proactively and efficiently. With a thorough and diligence approach, you have an eye for detail, are commercially driven and eager to make your mark in a company on an ambitious growth journey.
